Royalling it up with cream tea in Ludlow (Michelin ‘Red Hotel’)

After yet another lazy morning in our lovely wee cottage we finally decided to take a drive through to Ludlow (the prettiest town in England or so it says on all the tourist info!)

We’re only about 20 miles from Ludlow so it took about 40 minutes to drive there. Once there we wandered into the centre. It’s a beautiful town (the tourist info just might be right) and is full to the brim with gorgeous Tudor buildings jutting out into the road and over the pavements. Read the rest of this entry »

A morning in Aberystwyth and the Devils Bridge

We woke up to a miserable rainy day. Not ones to be put off by this we got in our car and took a drive over to Aberystwyth.

Aberystwyth is a traditional Victorian seaside town with lovely big flats overlooking the sea, a promenade and the longest electric cliff lift in Britain. It has museums, a Camera Obscura and lots of light railways around Read the rest of this entry »

Wander round Knighton and Offa’s Dyke Centre

This morning we had a lazy morning so by the time we were motivated for leaving the cottage we opted for a short drive into Knighton for a spot of lunch and a wander.

We stopped at The Horse and Jockey Inn for lunch which was good value and one of the only places I have ever seen ‘proper hand-cut chips’ (just like Mum’s used to make) on the menu. Read the rest of this entry »

A Morning Visiting Shrewsbury

The first day of our holiday saw us heading into Shrewsbury because, to quote my Fiance “we both like Cadfael”…It’s this reasoning that makes him want us to holiday in the Caribbean (think James Bond) and go back to California (think Arnie and the A Team)…but I digress, so on our first day we decided to visit Shrewsbury.
